Charles Makaha, a cop based at Nyangambe base, Mkwasine in Chiredzi is on the run after he literally took the bull by the horns when he accepted it as a bribe to release a suspect from custody.

Makaha took delivery of the prized bull from Nyevero Mapurisa after he threatened to send his son, Thomas Masingwini to prison for ever for a crime which was not disclosed in court during initial hearing.

Makaha (34) appeared before Regional Magistrate, Judith Zuyu for criminal abuse of office as a public officer.

It is the state case that on the 5th of December 2023 Makaha arrested Thomas and Mapurisa followed at the Nyangambe police base to see his detained son.

Upon arrival Makaha approached Mapurisa and demanded a bull so that he would release his son or send him to rot prison.

As soon as his son was released after giving Makaha the bull he had demanded, Mapurisa made a police report leading to Makaha’ s arrest.

He was remanded to 31 January 2024, but he never showed up at court and is on the run. Makaha has 10 years of service as a policeman.
