MILLICENT HUNGWE
A Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, Farai Simudzirai (43), is facing allegations of fatally shooting Shadreck Madzore (24), during a high-speed chase.
According to the state outline, Simudzirai, who is stationed at CID Mwenezi, was on suspension since July 2024 for a pending murder case.
On March 16, 2025, Simudzirai teamed up with Detective Constable Simbabure and went to Lundi Business Centre for surveillance and intelligence gathering, despite being suspended from active police duties.
When they received a report of a highway robbery, they chased after the suspects in a private vehicle, a Nissan Wingroad.
During the chase, Simudzirai allegedly fired indiscriminately at the suspects’ vehicle, a Mazda B1800 pickup, using a service AK rifle. Madzore, who was coming from church was shot with two bullets and sustained serious injuries.
He was taken to Rutenga Clinic, where he passed away while preparations were being made to transfer him to Neshuro Hospital.
Simudzirai has been charged and appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Elizabeth Hanzie on March 24, 2025 and he was remanded in custody until April 8.
The prosecution opposed bail, citing that Simudzirai has a pending murder case and is likely to abscond or interfere with evidence and witnesses.
