On March 11, 2025 at around 1730hrs at Gumira Village under Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge, Energy Mashava (12) hanged himself from a tree branch following an altercation with his grandmother who warned him against his decision to drop out of school.
“It is alleged that on March 11, 2025, Energy was warned by his grandmother Zvati Sigauke (55) against his decision to drop out of school.
“This did not go down well with Energy and he angrily left their homestead.
“At around 1800hrs, Zvati attempted to call Energy back but there was no response.
“Zvati sent Energy’s brother Sadam Guma (13) to search for Energy and he discovered the body of Energy hanging from a tree branch about 100m from their homestead,” said Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka.
He said the case was reported at ZRP Chisumbanje while the body was taken to St Peters Hospital for postmortem and investigations are in progress.
