MASVINGO- Mamuste Stadium will this weekend host the inaugural Chenemhere soccer tournament, The Midweek Watch has learnt.

Ephraim Makuchete aka Madzibaba Ben, founder of Chinemhere Academy is bankrolling the soccer tournament which has been set for May 5 with five teams competing in the U17 teams category.

The teams are Chinemhere Academy from Nemamwa Growth Point, Fairdeal Academy, LavLam Academy, Blessing Academy and Rujeko Academy.

Winner of the tournament will receive a trophy and a cash prize, second placed team will receive a cash prize and a soccer ball while the third placed team  will walk away with cash as well.

The top goal scorer will get a yet to be named prize whilst the best goalkeeper gets a pair of glove.

“This is our first tournament in Masvingo and next month we will host our second Under 20 tournament at Great Zimbabwe.

“My team Chinemhere has 72 players and the players’ age group range from 6-23 years however we are not yet registered because of shortage of funds.

“The parents of the soccer players at Chinemhere Academy are very supportive, they all filled the indemnity forms for the coming tournament.

“I started this Academy to expose all children with talents and to reduce the cases of drugs and substance abuse for it is said that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop that easily results to drug abuse and early child marriages,” he said

He however, bemoaned lack of training facilities in Nemamwa as the available soccer grounds are always occupied by social soccer players (maboozers) limiting his academy’s training hours.
