TRIANGLE – A 12 year old girl who was hearding cattle was fatally mauled by a crocodile while swimming in the crocodile infested Mutirikwi River.
The juvenile was herding cattle with a her 7 year old friend when they decided to swim in Mutirikwi River at Adah Booster Triangle in Village 13, Masvingo Province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told The Midweek Watch.
On 10 April at around 2:30 pm, Kudzai Chikweza was accompanied by her friend to herd cattle near Mutirikwi River and started swimming with other children.
Inspector Dhewa said that as they were swimming Kudzai Chikweza, was attacked by a crocodile.
The 7year old friend immediately went home to report and found the father of the deceased Lyton Chikweza who went to the river with sticks trying to threaten the crocodile.
Chikweza managed to retrieve his daughter’s body from the water and reported to the police.
Kudzai Chikweza died from wounds after being bitten by the crocodile on the chest.
Postmortem was waved by Chiredzi Magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa.
“Encourage children not to swim in crocodile infested rivers.
“Parents should have time with their children telling them about dangerous rivers as they grow up so that they won’t go swimming in such places,” said Inspector Dhewa.
