MASVINGO RURAL-Farmers in the Zishumbe area about 40km from Masvingo City along Mutare Road are living in fear after three buffaloes were spotted in the community.
The buffaloes were spotted on Wednesday as they were eating and destroying winter maize crop and other farm crops prompting farmers to send alert messages everywhere.
“We are living in fear of our lives after noticing that we have strange visitors in our farming area. The buffaloes have gone on to destroy crops especially our winter maize which had reached knee level.
“We have resorted to penning our cattle at 4pm because our lives are in danger especially during the night or at sun set.
“We appeal to the powers that be to quickly come to our rescue before we loose lives or our cattle are infected with the deadly foot and mouth disease,” said Jabulani Muguza from Village 5.
Muguza said the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority should come and put down the buffaloes or take them back to where they came from.
The buffaloes were also spotted in Kepure Farm towards Ndanga area, Maraigwa in Gutu and near Bikita Minerals.
ZIMPARKS head of corporate communications and public relations, Tinashe Farawo said he had not received the report and promised to revert back to The Midweek Watch soon after getting details of the matter.
