Bikita cattle rustler nabbed

BIKITA- One suspected cattle rustler has been arrested while his accomplice is still at large following a spat of stock theft cases recorded from 26 February to March 7, 2025.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dewa confirmed the arrest of Osine Mumbande (33) while his alleged partner in crime Brian Gono (28) is still at large.

“This communique serves to confirm the arrest of an accused person who stole several herds of cattle in Chief Mukangamwi’s area in Bikita,” he said.

He said Osine Mumbande (33) was employed as a herd boy at Matebe Village under Chief Mukangamwi. During the said period, the two accused persons stole eight cattle and sold them to unsuspecting cattle buyers without police clearance.

On March 8, 2025, police acted on received information and managed to arrest Mumbande and recovered four beasts from different people in Nyahunda area.

He said efforts are underway to recover the remaining four.

He appealed to members of the public who might have information on the whereabouts of Gono to report to any nearest police station. He advised farmers to brand their livestock for easy identification when lost or stolen.

“Anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Brian Gono should advise the nearest police station.

“Members of the public are advised to brand their livestock for easy identification when lost or stolen. They are also advised to follow the required stock clearance procedures to avoid buying stolen stock,” he said
