Armed robbers in US$6k Odzi heist

MUTARE-An unknown number of armed robbers pounced on an Odzi service station and made off with cash and property worth over US$6 000 at midnight last Wednesday.
Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the robbery that happened at Munhuruka Complex which houses a Mukuru and Tumai cash collection booths 0002hours.
Chinyoka said two of the robbers wearing balaclavas broke into the bedroom where Loice Nyanhanda (45) and Theresa Makataire (30) were sleeping, with one of them brandishing a pistol who ordered the two to lie down and not move.
The other robber went outside and teamed up with the others to force open the shop’s screen door and blew a safe with explosives and stole US$5 880 cash and computer tills as well and the total value of goods stolen was US$6 007 and nothing has been recovered.
The gang disappeared into the night and Police are investigating the theft.
Chinyoka urged businesspeople not to keep large sums of cash at their premises and instead deposit money with their banks.
The Midweek Watch is reliably informed that the same complex lost US$5 000 cash recently to armed robbers using the same modus operand.
