MASVINGO – A Bulawayo postmortem examination has failed to establish the cause of death of 34-year-old Brian Hokoyo, whose decomposed body was discovered under a baobab tree near Masvingo Polytechnic last week.
The body was initially taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital before being transferred to Bulawayo for further postmortem examination.
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed that the final postmortem results classified the cause of death as unascertained due to decomposition.
Hokoyo reportedly left home for work at around 7am on August 13 but did not return.
Police said he had also had a fight with his wife before his disappearance.
After failing to locate him, his wife filed a missing person report on August 17.
Two days later, on August 19, Hokoyo’s body was discovered under a baobab tree near Masvingo Polytechnic.
Dhewa said the Bulawayo examination could not establish the cause of death because of the advanced decomposition of the body.
“The postmortem results were unascertained due to decomposition,” Dhewa said.
Police have not indicated whether they suspect foul play, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding Hokoyo’s death are continuing?
