My response to Papa JC for Minister Felix Mhona to quit
I disagree with the call by Papa JC for the Minister of Transport to resign over the Kariba accident.
First, the accident is a result of management negligence and the disregard of recommendations made by the Malaba Commission after the Moleli boat disaster.
You cannot ask a Minister to resign over systemic failures that were never attended to, some of which happened when the Minister himself was possibly still in primary school.
Second, Papa JC, we must reject this weak British mentality of resigning every time we face challenges.
An African leader steps up. He owns the problem. He fixes it. Resignation is an escape. Leadership is reform.
What needs to be done is to revisit the Malaba Commission recommendations, tighten monitoring and regulation of our waterways, and enforce compliance.
That is how we prevent the next tragedy. Not by scapegoating, but by doing the work.
