MUTARE-The photography fraternity in Mutare is mourning the death of veteran photographer George Zihero, who died yesterday at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital after a short illness.
He was 56.
Zihero, who began his photography career in 1996, built a reputation as one of Mutare’s most respected photographers, documenting memorable moments for families, organisations and communities across Manicaland over nearly three decades.
He once served as chief photographer for the now-defunct Eastern Star tabloid, where his work captured major news events and community stories, earning him recognition for his professionalism and dedication to the craft.
Until his death, Zihero operated his photography business from Meikles Park in Mutare, where he continued serving clients with portrait, event and commercial photography.
Family spokesperson Masimba Madhonera described him as a humble and hardworking professional whose lens preserved countless milestones, from weddings and graduations to public events and corporate functions.
His death marks the end of a career that spanned almost 30 years and leaves a significant void in Mutare’s photography industry.
Mourners are gathered at House P389A in Dangamvura.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
Funeral arrangements are underway, with burial set for Saturday at Dangamvura Cemetery.
