Mutare – Three men have been arrested in connection with a murder that occurred in the mining town of Shurugwi in May this year.
The suspects, identified as Courage Goromondo (36), Knowledge Matumbu (45), and Dzingai Tauya (45), were arrested at Chikanga Council Bar in Mutare on June 12, 2026. According to police, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Mutare acted on information received from members of the public indicating that the trio was involved in a series of violent crimes, including murder, committed at mining sites.
Following their arrest and subsequent questioning, the suspects allegedly implicated themselves in the murder of Tinashe George Mutinyika, whose body was discovered in a bushy area near Railway Block in Shurugwi on May 8, 2026. The body was reportedly found by a resident who had gone to collect firewood and subsequently alerted the Zimbabwe Republic Police in Shurugwi.
Investigations revealed that the deceased had previously been reported missing after allegedly being attacked by the three suspects and their accomplices, Tabuda Chokoto (37), Spencer Sibanda (34), and Simbarashe Mhanga (30), who are already in police custody.
CID Shurugwi confirmed that the three recently arrested suspects were on the police wanted list in connection with the murder case. They are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.
Speaking on the matter, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka commended members of the public for providing information that led to the arrests and urged citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.
He also warned members of the public against engaging in criminal activities, emphasizing that crime ultimately leads to suffering for victims, families, and communities.
“The loss of a human life is a tragedy that leaves families devastated and communities in mourning. No dispute, misunderstanding, or pursuit of personal gain is worth taking another person’s life. We urge members of the public to resolve conflicts peacefully and to respect the sanctity of human life,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
