MILLICENT HUNGWE
MWENEZI-A 32-year-old Mwenezi man has been sentenced to six months in prison after he stabbed his former workmate during a domestic dispute at Rutenga Business Centre.
The incident, which was confirmed by ZRP Masvingo Province spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, occurred in the early hours of May 31.
According to police, the complainant, Bernard Murei (32) of Rutenga Stands, was involved in an argument with his wife, Memory Zireva, at around 2:30am.
Murei was reportedly questioning his wife over her whereabouts.
The accused, Kudakwashe Moyodhehwa (32), who is not related to the complainant but had previously worked with him carrying sand, approached the couple and attempted to intervene.
However, Murei told Moyodhehwa not to interfere in his marital affairs before moving away with his wife.
Moyodhehwa followed the couple and, without saying a word, stabbed Murei once on the right side of his abdomen with an unidentified sharp object, leaving him with a deep cut.
Murei reported the matter to the police at around 3:00am on the same day, leading to Moyodhehwa’s arrest.
The injured man was referred to Neshuro District Hospital, where he was admitted in a serious condition.
The accused initially faced an attempted murder charge when he appeared before the court on June 1.
However, the charge was later reduced to assault after a medical report indicated that the injuries sustained were not life-threatening.
Moyodhehwa was subsequently convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, which he is serving at Mwenezi Prison.
