MUTARE-Manica Diamonds FC head coach Patrick Mandizha has declared that his side will not be intimidated by Dynamos FC when the two teams clash in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 16 encounter at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday.
The Gem Boys head into the fixture buoyed by an encouraging run of results since returning to their home ground. Manica Diamonds have remained unbeaten at Sakubva, recording a 3-1 victory over Agama before settling for a 1-1 draw against FC Hunters and holding Highlanders to a goalless stalemate.
The recent resurgence has injected fresh belief into the Mutare-based outfit as they continue their fight to climb out of the relegation zone. Despite occupying 16th position on the league table with 10 points. Manica Diamonds have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks and will be hoping to build on that momentum against one of the league’s most in-form sides.
Dynamos, who sit sixth with 24 points on the standings, arrive in Mutare with confidence high following a string of impressive performances. However, Mandizha insists his side will not be overawed by the challenge.
“We give them the respect they deserve. Their achievements in domestic football speak volumes about their capabilities. They are playing very well at the moment, but we do not fear them. We are going to stand toe-to-toe with them and fight for a positive result,” said Mandizha.
The coach believes the return to Sakubva Stadium has played a key role in his team’s recent improvement, with home support helping to inspire better performances. The Gem Boys have looked more organised and determined in recent matches, qualities that Mandizha hopes will once again be on display this weekend.
Despite their improved displays, Manica Diamonds have at times been let down by a lack of clinical finishing in front of goal. Nevertheless, Mandizha remains optimistic after what he has witnessed on the training ground, praising the attitude and commitment shown by his players ahead of the crucial encounter.
Under the new ownership led by Evans Kamombo, expectations remain high that the club can turn its season around. Recent performances have suggested that brighter days could be on the horizon, and victory against Dynamos would provide a significant boost to the team’s survival hopes.
With every point now crucial in the battle to avoid relegation, Sunday’s clash represents another important test for the Gem Boys. A positive result against one of Zimbabwean football’s traditional powerhouses would not only strengthen their position in the standings but also reinforce the growing belief within the camp.
“League positions do not win football matches. What wins matches is desire, commitment and the willingness to fight for every ball. We respect Dynamos, but we are not afraid of them. We are playing at home and we want to give our supporters something to celebrate. Come Sunday, we will be going all out for the three points,” Mandizha said.
With pride, points and momentum all on the line, Sakubva Stadium is set for an intriguing showdown as the Gem Boys seek to prove they can match one of the league’s heavyweights and continue their resurgence.
