MWENEZI-A 30-year-old man from Mwenezi is fighting for his life at Chiredzi General Hospital after he was allegedly attacked with wooden logs during a beer-drinking incident in Triangle.
The victim, Taurai Chinenguri of Village Mutaveni under Chief Chitanga in Mwenezi, was allegedly assaulted by Justice Jakobosi and Dee Makadho at Mutabeni Bacos area near Headman Hlongani on May 4 at around 9PM.
According to reports, Chinenguri was drinking beer with Makadho at the area when an argument erupted over a long-standing undisclosed dispute.
The misunderstanding reportedly escalated after the group moved away from other patrons before a group of accused persons allegedly attacked Chinenguri using wooden logs taken from a nearby Bacos market.
Villagers who heard the commotion rushed to the scene, but the suspects allegedly fled, leaving Chinenguri lying unconscious on the ground.
An ambulance rushed the injured to Chiredzi General Hospital where he is admitted in a serious condition.
Masvingo Province Deputy Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch and said investigations are underway.
Police are appealing to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects, who are still at large, to report at any nearest police station.
