MUTARE-Manicaland Province was plunged into mourning following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two civil servants on Saturday morning in Devure Range, Masvingo Province.
The victims, Memory Rutsvara and Lovemore Mwavurudza, both employees of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development stationed in Mutare City. The tragic incident occurred in the Devure Range area of Bikita as a Public Service Commission (PSC) bus, traveling from Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre in Masvingo, veered off the road and lost control while heading towards Birchenough Bridge.
According to Bikita District Development Coordinator, Bernard Hadzirabwi, the bus was transporting civil servants who were returning home after participating in the Inter-Ministerial Sports Tournament held in Masvingo. While Rutsvara and Mwavurudza tragically lost their lives at the scene, several other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Birchenough Bridge Hospital for medical treatment.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza (pictured), expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing the deceased as exemplary public servants. Speaking at a funeral service for Rutsvara held at the Chikanga Roman Catholic Church in Mutare, Advocate Mugadza lauded her as a disciplined and dedicated accountant who played a vital role in the administration of government agricultural programs within the province.
The final rites for the two officials are being held today, with Rutsvara being laid to rest at Dangamvura Cemetery and Mwavurudza at Dora. Their passing marks a significant loss for the Ministry of Agriculture and the broader civil service community, who had just concluded a weekend of professional camaraderie and sporting competition.
