MASVINGO-Week 5 of the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League sharpened the battle at the top, with dropped points for the leaders allowing the chasing pack to close in.

At the summit, GreenFuel FC and Yadah FC remain level on 11 points but neither side managed to assert dominance.
GreenFuel were held to a 1-1 draw by Africa Mineral Ventures FC while Yadah FC were forced to settle for a 2-2 stalemate against Buffaloes FC.
Both teams are still unbeaten, yet their failure to convert draws into wins is beginning to open the door for rivals. Goal difference now separates the two with GreenFuel maintaining a slight defensive advantage.
Masvingo United FC delivered the standout performance of the round, thrashing Four Lions FC 5-0. The result not only boosts their goal difference but firmly places them among the title contenders. They join Africa Mineral Ventures FC and Buffaloes FC on nine points, forming a tightly packed group just two points behind the leaders.
Africa Mineral Ventures FC’s result against GreenFuel FC underlines their credentials, while Buffaloes FC continue to show resilience despite dropping points late.
In mid-table, Bikita Minerals FC and Tenax CS FC are steadily gaining ground. Bikita Minerals FC’s disciplined 1-0 win over Grand Legacy FC keeps them within reach of the top four while Tenax’s draw highlights consistency, though their attacking output remains a concern.
Mutare City Rovers FC continue to prove difficult to beat but four draws in five matches point to a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
Further down, Great Zimbabwe University FC’s 2-0 derby victory over Power FC could mark a turning point in their season. However, the match also exposed growing disciplinary issues across the league, with red cards and multiple cautions reflecting rising intensity in key fixtures.
Renco Mine FC’s dramatic stoppage-time win over FC Wangu Mazodze showcased their fighting spirit, although both sides remain in the lower half of the table.
At the bottom, Tongogara United FC, Chivhu FC and Power FC are already feeling the pressure. Defensive vulnerabilities continue to cost them and without quick improvement, they risk falling further behind as the season progresses.
With five rounds played, the league remains wide open.
The leaders still set the pace but momentum is shifting. Consistency, discipline and goal difference are fast emerging as decisive factors in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested title race.
