The sleepy Nyazura community has been plunged into mourning following the death of a youthful couple who were found hanging from separate branches on one tree.
Diana Mangenda (20) and Courage Chaza (27) of Dekenya Village under Chief Makoni in Nyazura were found hanging on branches of the same tree in their homestead on November 12 following infidelity accusations.
Manicaland Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that Chaza and Mangenda had a misunderstanding over infidelity issues, where the wife accused the husband of sleeping around with different women.
The wife took a rope and hung herself on a tree branch in the homestead and left a note stating that she killed herself as she could not stand her husband’s infidelity.
After sometime on the same day the husband, Chaza took a rope and wrote a note saying there was no reason for him to live since her wife had died and hung himself.
A neighbor, Itai Macheme of Macheme village who was going to his field which is near the deceased’s homestead saw the two bodies hanging from a tree and alerted other villagers and made a report to the police and the bodies were taken to Rusape District Hospital.
Meanwhile, Chinyoka urged couples to seek counselling from experienced people whenever there are differences than to resort to suicide as that has a traumatizing effect on children and close relatives.
