MARANGE- Manicaland Province Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka has issued an appeal to the general public not to let juveniles go to large water bodies for swimming or do laundry without adult supervision.

The appeal by Chinyoka follows the tragic drowning of two daughters from the same family in Marange in a Dam in Nyamariya Village last Sunday.

Chinyoka told The Midweek that, on March 17 at around 10 am, Nokuthenda(12) and Melania(10) Mukwada together with their friend (12) went to do laundry at a nearby dam.

Upon arrival they decided to swim first, but the friend refused to join them.

The duo started swimming and Melania started drowning, in a bid to retrieve her sister Nokuthenda unfortunately also drowned in the process.

The friend ran to Mukwada’s homestead and informed the father Lovemore Mukwada (50) of the incident who reported the matter to Marange police station whereupon the bodies were retrieved from the dam.
