MIDWEEK REPORTER
RUSAPE-The ZRP has arrested Collen Manyara, 30, of Manyara Village under Headman Masvosva in Chief Makoni area and James Bvekerwa, 34, of Samunderu Village under Chief Svosve for unlawful possession of 2 x 90kg and 8 x 50kg sacks of mbanje.
Collen and James were arrested on Monday (2/6/25) after a tip off from members of the public as they were allegedly preparing to take the mabnje to an unknown ‘auction floor’ from Makoni.
Detectives were informed that the two had a plantation of mbanje at Manyara’s homestead, but as they swooped on the area they found out that the plants had already been uprooted and there was no trace of the stems as they were probably burnt to conceal evidence.
The detectives only found well packed sacks ready to be taken to the market in Manyara’s hut ready to be transported to an unknown destination.
Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told the Midweek that the two were arrested and are assisting the detectives with investigations.
The mbanje is yet to be weighed to ascertain the exact amount.
Chinyoka warned that people should desist from peddling in dangerous drugs as the police are always on the look out for such criminals and one day the law will catch up with perpetrators who will regret engaging in such illegal activities which have the potential to destroy society.
