ZVISHAVANE-Sexual predators who were on the prowl raping minors in Zvishavane, have tested their own medicine after the Gweru Regional Magistrate courts gave them stiff sentences.

Although, there are no immediate statistics of how many rape cases that involve minors per month, this week alone, Gweru Regional Magistrate courts delivered sentences for two separate rape cases from Zvishavane district.

One Shadreck Mandiva (23) was slapped with 31 years imprisonment for two counts of raping an 8 year grade one pupil in Zvishavane.

Mandiva who was a domestic worker was found  guilty at the close of state case by Regional Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

It was alleged that sometime in June 2023, Mandiva lured the minor (name withheld) into the bedroom where he removed her clothes, unzipped his trousers before inserting his erect pennis and unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the juvenile.

“After the act, the accused told the complainant not to tell anyone about the matter because he will be arrested,” said Sibangani Dube from the National Prosecuting Authority.

He added that Mandiva used the same modus operandi to rape the juvenile whenever they are home alone.

He, however lost his luck when (Vimbai Zinyemba, not real name) reported the matter to the girl’s mother after she found her licking the man’s sperms.

The doctors report presented in court also confirmed that the minor was sexually abused.

In another case,  Regional Magistrate Christopher Maturure jailed Tatenda  Shanganai aged 32 of Mazvihwa, Zvishavane for raping a grade three  9 year old girl.

Prosecutor Linah Mamombe told the court that Shanganai in March 2023, entered the minor’s  bedroom while she was asleep with other siblings.

He then grabbed the neck of the complainant before removing her pant and mounted on top of her.

“The accused then lowered his trousers to knee level, inserted his penis into the minor’s vagina and had unprotected sexual intercourse with her once without her consent,” added Mamombe

During the act, the court heard that the girl screamed loud due to pain and other siblings woke up and saw Shanganai running out of the room.

The matter came to light after the complainant narrated the harrowing incident to her mother who in turn reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Shanganai.
