ZVISHAVANE- A 33-year -old man from Zvishavane has been sentenced to five years in prison for possessing electricity transmission materials belonging to the country’s power utility company (ZESA).
Michael Nyoni (33) of Makacha Village in Zvishavane appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Sengster Tavengwa last week for illegal possession of ZESA material.
According to court records, detectives acting on a tip off visited Nyoni’s workshop at Fadzanai Shop situated at Mapazuli Business Centre on March 3, 2025.
They discovered 10 galvanised angle iron sheets which belong to ZESA. Nyoni failed to produce a valid licence authorising the possession of the materials leading to his arrest.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Tavengwa said tempering with or unlawfully possessing electricity material is a serious offence.
