ZVISHAVANE- Zvishavane Private School Sport Association’s influence towards the development of early childhood sporting activities in Zvishavane continues to grow as more institutions are coming on board.

ZPSSA was established in January 2023 with only four schools namely; Shinning Stars Junior School, PaMavambo Primary School, Bestview College and Mberengwa Christian College.

This year four more schools have joined the association and these are; Little Bees, Milestone, Nashview and St Daniels School.

ZPSSA vice chairperson Farrant Mudikanwi from Shinning Stars told The Midweek Watch that the association was formed to coordinate the sporting activities of pupils enrolled at privately owned schools in the mining town.

“We noted with concern high records of obesity since private schools mostly concentrate on intellectual development for pass rates at the expense of the psycho motor domain that promote weight loss and physical wellness.

“Private Schools were concentrating on preparing learners for white collar jobs whereas modern life is highly paying to careers outside the formal sector hence formation of the association,” he said.

Mudikanwi added that the association’s activities provide opportunities for kids to showcase their talents while promoting physical fitness and arts as part of their curricula.

ZPSSA’s 2024 programme for athletics is on 28 February at Maglas Stadium.

After every sporting event the winning kids get various prizes in the form of branded T shirts, medals and certificates.

One of the parents who has a pupil attending Best View School, Ostinah Mirazi said since her child started participating in the sporting events, the kid has developed into a team player.

“This programme enables our children to showcase their talents and be able to work with others as team,” said Mirazi.

ZPSSA treasurer Rosewitah Dari said they are looking forward to competing against other private schools from other provinces and towns like Gweru, Bulawayo and Masvingo.

The kids participate in games like, tennis, athletics and ball games.
