ZVISHAVANE- Police in Zvishavane have intensified road safety operations following a rise in reckless driving and illegal transport activities in the mining town.

Chief Superintendent Enock Chishiri.

In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Chief Superintendent Enock Chishiri said violations are increasing in the Zvishavane Central Business District (CBD) and along feeder roads to Mberengwa, Buka ,Mapanzure and surrounding areas.

He said the ongoing operation targets those picking up and dropping off passengers at undesignated points, creating imaginary lanes, and operating without proper permits or vehicle fitness.  He said the goal is to ensure there is order for all motorists on the roads.

“We encourage all drivers to follow traffic rules and cooperate with police officers during the operation to maintain a smooth and safe driving experience for all motorists,” he said.

He warned that anyone attempting to bribe police officers would face the full wrath of the law.

The development comes at a time when the police is targeting mushikashika operators without permits, carrying excess passengers and using unroadworthy vehicles.

Police officers in Zvishavane have also flagged illegal vehicle modifications, including racks fitted to carry goods while transporting passengers.

He urged passengers to disembark from overloaded vehicles and to avoid pirate taxis.
