-turns down Chief Whip offer

GWERU-Midlands Province veteran opposition figure Senator Sesel Zvidzai has rejected the appointment as deputy chief whip in the Senate by CCC self imposed secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu.
Zvidzai was previously the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) chief whip in the Senate, but his appointment was rescinded by the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda on Thursday.
Mudenda told the National Assembly that he had made an error by allowing the appointments made through CCC chief administrator James Timba.
He said after a reflection, he had noted that Timba had no locus standi to represent the CCC party.
The Speaker then appointed new members to the committees from Tshabangu’s list, and Senator Zvidzai was appointed as the deputy chief whip.
However, Zvidzai turned down the appointment after raising a point of order when the Acting President of the Senate announced the new committee members.
Zvidzai told The Midweek Watch that his party, the CCC, was not part of the appointments.
He said, “The major reason I declined the appointment is that it was not done procedurally and without the necessary involvement of the real CCC”.
“Tshabangu does not have the political consanguinity to claim to be my secretary general. The focus now is to use the space available in the Senate to advance the agenda for change,” he said.
Zvidzai added that he had moved motions to enact laws that will functionalize devolution, address the plight of persons with Chronic Kidney Disease, and speak to the compensation of pensioners and policyholders who suffered prejudice due to hyperinflation and dollarization.
He also emphasized the need to craft regulations to govern the recalling of elected officials, to defend the democratic choices of the people against the whims of greedy individuals.
