ZRP probes 2 fatal accidents in 24hrs

The ZRP is currently investigating two separate, tragic road traffic accidents that claimed lives in quick succession, and has urged motorists to drive responsibly.

In the first incident, which occurred on 13 October 2025, a hit-and-run left a pedestrian dead along the 7.5 km peg on Christmas Pass–Shamhu Road in Penhalonga.

According to ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the victim was attempting to cross the road when a vehicle, yet to be identified struck him.

The pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and died instantly, while the driver fled the scene without stopping. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the vehicle and its occupant.

Less than a day later, on 14 October 2025, another fatal collision occurred at the 82 km peg on the Harare–Chirundu Road where a head-on crash involvig a haulage truck and a Honda Fit carrying a couple.

The collision was devastating, both occupants of the Honda Fit died on the spot, while the two individuals in the truck suffered injuries.

Authorities have transported the bodies to Chinhoyi Hospital for post-mortem examination as investigations are underway.

The ZRP is calling on drivers, especially those of heavy vehicles, to exercise caution and observe speed limits to avoid accidents.
