MASVINGO–Masvingo Central District police commander, Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Duve has issued a temporary ban on carrying of dangerous weapons in public.
In a statement in our hands Duve invoked Section 4 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act Chapter 11:23 and with immediate effect from 27 July, 2023, to 26 October, 2023 prohibit the carrying in public (whether openly or by concealment) in a public place or public display of any of the weapons or items capable of being used as weapons.

The weapons include catapults, machetes, axes, knobkerries, swords, knives or daggers.
This prohibition order has been prompted by an upsurge in the use of dangerous weapons in committing crimes in the district, said Duve.
The statement went on to state that those who do not comply with this prohibition notice shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding level 5 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or to both such fine and such imprisonment.
