MASVINGO- The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has promoted 25 officers at a brief ceremony held at Masvingo Remand Prison on February 28.

The 25 were conferred badges of rank to senior officers by Commissioner Nelson Chikwature who revealed that a total of 976 officers were promoted countrywide.

Officers were promoted to different ranks including Assistant Principal Correctional Officer, Principal Correctional Officer and Chief Correctional Officer among others.

Mutimurefu Prison had 15 officers who were promoted, eight from Masvingo Remand Prison and two from the Workshop.

Speaking on behalf of ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu who made the promotions, Comm Chikwature urged the promoted officers to continue working hard and serve as an example to other officers.

He urged unity amongst officers and encouraged those who have not yet been promoted to also work hard as merit was considered when coming up with promotions.

“As management, our expectations are that you should always strive to bring forth constructive, creative and innovative ideas that should be able to turn around the fortunes of the organization.

“You are not asked to re-invent the wheel but to simply turn it with much increased dynamism and determination for enhanced organizational performance towards service delivery.

There is a clarion call for senior officers to have unity of purpose and oneness in all our endeavours.

“You must therefore, shove aside instances and individual differences and promote team work. Whilst we play different numbers or roles during the discharge of our duties, we remain one team that is ZPCS.

“Let us also motivate those whom we lead so that they discharge their duties to the best of their ability,” said Chikwature.

He also implored officers to urge members under their command to refrain from drugs and substance abuse.
