Zimbabwe’s path to a sustainable future: The 2025 environmental calendar

As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and conservation, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has launched its 2025 Environmental Calendar and The National Clean Up Day programme for 2025 which will take place on the first Friday of every month from January to December.

The clean-up events will occur from 0800-1000 hours on specific dates, aimed at promoting a clean and healthy environment through community participation and collective action.

This comprehensive guide outlines global and local environmental action days, providing a platform for stakeholders to raise awareness, share ideas, and promote sustainable practices.

The year begins with World Wetlands Day on February 2, highlighting the importance of these ecosystems in maintaining biodiversity.

This is followed by National Clean-Up Day on March 3, encouraging communities to come together and clean up their surroundings.

March is a busy month for environmental enthusiasts, with World Wildlife Day on March 3, Digital Clean-up Day on March 15, Global Recycling Day on March 18, International Day of Forests on March 21, World Water Day on March 22, and Earth Hour on March 22.

These observance days promote conservation, sustainable practices, and environmental awareness.

April 22 marks Earth Day, while May brings National Fire Week (second week of May) and International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22.

World Environment Day on June 5 and Desertification and Drought Day on June 17 highlight the need for sustainable land management practices.

July is a month of awareness, with Plastic Free Month, World Nature Conservation Day on July 28, and Clean up Zimbabwe Month. International Day for Clean Air on September 7 and International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer on September 16 to promote sustainable living and environmental conservation.

October brings International Day for Climate Action on October 24 and National Tree Planting Day on the first Saturday of December. World Clean-Up Day on September 20 and International E-Waste Day on October 14 highlight the need for responsible waste management practices.

The EMA calendar is a call to action, encouraging individuals, organizations, and communities to work together towards a sustainable future.
