Zimbabwe will participate in the Confederation of African Amputee Football Games for the first time.

The games are slated for September 3 in Accra Ghana.

Zimbabwe is making a maiden appearance in the regional showcase after being admitted in the Confederation of African Amputee Football earlier this year.

Twelve African countries will be participating where Zimbabwe has been put in Group A together  with the hosts Ghana, Cameroon and Tanzania while Group B has Liberia, Morocco, Uganda and Togo. Angola, Kenya, Egypt and Rwanda are in Group C.

Zimbabwe Amputee Football Federation secretary general Paul Madziwa said he is happy and will use the tournament to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt next year which will also be used as the qualifiers for the World Cup.

“We are happy to be going to Accra for these Games. We want to use this tournament to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt next year which will also be used as the qualifiers for the World Cup.

“Our challenge at the moment is sponsorship, we need crutches for the athletes because the ones they are using are not the ideal ones. We need the ones that are suitable for playing football.

“We also need kits, balls and also a better pitch for training. We are currently using Danhiko School pitch but it’s very hard and it causes injuries and damage to crutches,” said Madziwa.
