ZRP Mbizo Police Station in Kwekwe yesterday received a major boost after ferrochrome giant Zimasco handed over a newly constructed ablution facility worth US$22 000, a development expected to improve service delivery for both officers and the public.

ZIMASCO officials handing over the ablution facilities to Commissioner Nyabadza.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Officer Commanding Midlands Province Commissioner Patson Nyabadza said the donation was timely as the station had gone for five years without proper ablution facilities following the condemnation of its old toilets in 2020.

“The donation dovetails with the philosophy of community policing, which encourages partnerships between the police, corporates and the public. When the working environment of police officers is improved, the whole community benefits through better service,” he said.

ZRP Mbizo, established in 1978 as an extension of Kwekwe Central, originally serviced a population of about 20 000.

Over the years, the township has expanded to accommodate more than 70 000 residents, but the station’s infrastructure, particularly ablution facilities, had not kept pace with the growth.

“From 2020 to 2025 the station had a serious problem of ablution facilities. This puts into perspective the extent of the problem being cured by Zimasco,” the senior officer said, adding that the facility would now benefit thousands of people who interact with the police station daily.

He also reiterated ZRP’s commitment to providing efficient services in line with its Client Service Charter, first introduced in 1995, urging the public to report any grievances to relevant police authorities.

Turning to crime, the officer noted that Mbizo remained a hotspot for serious offences including murder, robberies, assaults and unlawful entry.

“Criminals in this area are warned that the spirits of this station’s officers have been uplifted by today’s donation; they will surely come for you,” he declared.

He further urged residents to take a proactive role in fighting crime, saying the responsibility went beyond the police.
