MASVINGO RURAL- The ZIFA Eastern Region Division One Soccer League barred journalists from attending the 2023 AGM last Saturday at Great Zimbabwe Hotel.
Quizzed on why the board chose such a stance its Secretary-General Wisdom Simba said the board imitates the national ZIFA board which he said does not allow members of the media to attend its meetings.
“We are an affiliate of the ZIFA national board and we copy how it conducts its meetings. It does not allow journalists in its meetings and we also imitate that,” said Simba.
Speaking after the meeting Simba said the meeting went on well as the board managed to iron out issues like discipline and outstanding affiliation fees.
He said the board took a resolution to suspend all teams with outstanding fees by mid-July.
One of the issues discussed at the meeting was the replacement of the late Thaddaeus Machawira who was the board’s administrator but tendered his resignation in 2020.
He said the board will conduct interviews in two weeks time to replace the long serving Eastern region godfather Machawira.
