ZESA employee electrocuted on duty

A ZESA employee stationed in Kadoma, Nicodemus Macharaga (pictured), died from electrical shock after he got into contact with live power cables left bare in the aftermath of a transformer theft.

Macharaga, 47, who worked in the loss control section, had gone to assist with investigations in a transformer theft incident that took place at a West View suburb sub station.

News of his death started filtering in on Thursday evening, sending shockwaves across the city.

Family representative Clement Marongwe said they have accepted fate and are in the process of putting in place logostical and traditional arrangements for the funeral.

His friend Emmanuel Bhero said he was saddened by the unfortunate said they incident.

“I got a call from one of the workmates who was at the scene. I went on to inform his wife who was on duty at her workplace. After receiving the message, the wife could not stomach it.

“For the record, Nico was my long time friend with whom I had good relations. For me, I take it as an incident that we must all accept. I am at a loss of words over this.”

Nicodemus Macharaga was a popular figure in local sport as he was team manager for High Voltage FC, affiliated with Kadoma Area Zone League.

He endeared himself as a supportive football scout, identifying and grooming youngsters who went on to scale greater heights in the football arena.
