ZESA cables thieves nabbed in Mutare

MUTARE-Four-men were arrested at their hideout located at number 7 Cornell Avenue in the Yeovil suburb, Mutare City where they were cleaning and storing stolen copper cables.

The suspects are Lovemore Zvarevashe (45), Innocent Gambakwe (24), Tanaka Panganai (26), and Tariro Vusimuzi Harahwa (40), while Boniface Chiadzwa remains at large.

Zvarevashe, Gambakwe, Panganai and Harahwa admitted to vandalizing a transformer at the Redwing Mine in Penhalonga.

They were caught by surveillance detectives while cutting Zesa copper cables into small pieces and packing them into green sacks.

Manicaland acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka stated that the police received a tip-off about large quantities of copper cables being hidden at Harahwa’s house.

Upon searching the premises, the police discovered bolt cutters, a hacksaw, and a sack loaded with Zesa copper cables in a white Isuzu K250 DTec (AFB 6507) belonging to Harahwa.

The four individuals have been charged with theft and vandalism of public infrastructure, while searching for the fifth suspect,  Chiadzwa, is still underway.
