MILLICENT HUNGWE
Masvingo – A misunderstanding over beer at a local bar has ended in tragedy, after a man was found dead days later on an open space near Zengeza Business Centre in Renco.
The deceased, Centie Hando, of Mukarudzi Village under Chief Nyanjena, reportedly had a dispute with the suspect, Maxwell Marumbwa, of Manyise Village, while drinking beer at Muzinda Bar on 25 November 2025.
According to the informant, Livison Shamhu (40), of Gwaendepi Village under Chief Nyanjena, the two were enjoying the wise waters when Marumbwa asked Hando to pour some beer into his empty 2-litre container. Hando refused, leading to a heated misunderstanding between the two.
Despite efforts by Shamhu to calm the situation, tensions remained high. Hando reportedly stepped outside the bar to take a phone call, and when he returned, the accused allegedly reignited the confrontation. Hando walked out again, and this time, Marumbwa followed him, chasing him down a nearby rocky hill.
Marumbwa later returned to the bar alone and claimed Hando had run away, and he couldn’t catch up with him.
However, on 30 November around 1 PM, Hando’s body was discovered in an open space at Zengeza Business Centre. He had visible injuries, including bruises on the left cheek, below the eye, and a deep cut on his right shoulder.
The ZRP Masvingo Province spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect, Marumbwa, is currently at large.
Police are appealing to members of the public with any information that may lead to the arrest of Marumbwa to assist with the ongoing investigations.
