MVUMA-arguably the biggest indigenous church, Zion Christian Church (ZCC) is set to construct a state of the art boarding school in Mvuma district in the Midlands province.
The church which is headed by Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi made the announcement recently in Beitbridge during a site visit for another private school, Gurukudera Academy to be established in the boarder town.
Mutendi said he has channeled the US$1 million donation from Wicknell Chivayo towards the construction of the educational institutions.
“We are working on constructing more schools in the country and we are happy with the progress,” he said.
The construction of education institutions, he said, was an important way of investing in the future of the young generation.
ZCC construction project manager Inock Moyo said the Mvuma school will be situated at Dombo raSamere, a monumental heritage site where ZCC founder Rev Samuel Mutendi would always stop to worship God every time he used that road.
He said they have channeled Chivayo ‘s US$1 million donation towards the schools’ project.
“In addition to the church’s fundraising initiatives, we have deployed the US$1 million donated by Mr Wicknell Chivayo to the schools’ project,” he said.
The church is also constructing two boarding schools in Beatrice, a small farming town 55km south of Harare.
Manyame Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Farirai Guta said the boarding facilities will give impetus to the growth and development of Beatrice.
