MASVINGO-In a bizarre incident that has left Rujeko ZAOGA Church congregants shell shocked, a bride disappeared less than an hour before taking marriage vows.
The woman believed to be 21 years old reportedly dumped her much older sweetheart when all was in place for the couple to walk down the aisle yesterday in Rujeko in the morning.
The Midweek Watch could not get the names of the bride and bridegroom, but senior church members confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity.
“It is true that such an incident happened at our Church yesterday when a woman who was supposed to have a white wedding suddenly disappeared after saying she was going to have nails done together with her sister who was part of the wedding team.
“Everything was in place and the witnesses had already prepared to celebrate the new family, but the girl had other ideas. Some people are saying she never loved the man in the first place, but the church elders were putting her under pressure to marry the man.
“It is also said she had her boyfriend and most likely she eloped to him on her wedding day,” said a senior lady from the church.
The Midweek Watch gathered that the woman is from Chivi District and was staying with her sister at Bhuka Business Centre while the boyfriend is from Mushandike Irrigation Scheme.
It is said the two had been lovers for over a year, but the girl was seeing another man behind his back.
“We were left with no option, but to feast on the food that was prepared for the wedding that never was. The bridegroom had already dressed and eagerly waiting for his sweetheart to walk down the aisle, unfortunately the bride had other ideas,” said another member of Rujeko ZAOGA.
