UNITED KINGDOM-Kudzai Makuku responds to acting district chairman Muneyi Zavare’s attempt to dismiss him on allegations of factionalism, security threats, and source of income.

Makuku blames “desperate acting district chairman Muneyi Zavare” for attempting to conceal financial mismanagement and acting as the true factionalist.

Makuku has issued a firm and unequivocal response to what he describes as “false and baseless allegations” that led to an attempted dismissal from the ZANU PF UK District. He characterises the claims as “baseless accusations with short legs” orchestrated by “a desperate acting district chairman, Cde Muneyi Zavare,” whom he accuses of seeking to conceal serious financial irregularities and consolidate personal power within the district’s leadership structures.

Makuku stated that he had previously chosen not to respond because he “did not wish to waste valuable time on petty political theatrics.” However, he said that the escalation of misinformation and attempts to tarnish his reputation had left him with no option but to set the record straight.

“The chairman must explain to the executive where the money went. He must show them the bank statements! For over five years, he has consistently refused to do so and year after year, district funds continue to vanish without explanation. Every time we raise money for events, projects, or conferences, the funds either fail to reach their intended purpose or fall mysteriously short.

My only ‘crime’ has been to demand accountability. For that, I am now being punished. These foolish accusations do not move me in the slightest. I remain committed to my country and my party. I am only not a comrade in the minds of the mad.”

On Irregular Dismissal Procedures

Makuku further described the process leading to his purported dismissal as “irregular, unconstitutional, and a direct violation of established party procedures.”

“I have already responded through the proper internal channels of the party. No one can be dismissed without a charge sheet or a disciplinary hearing. This attempt is a desperate and clumsy manoeuvre that simply will not stand. Everyone in the district knows that it is nonsense. If he truly wishes to dismiss anyone, he must follow due process.”

He expressed deep disappointment that, rather than focusing on transparency and accountability, certain leaders had resorted to “petty, malicious, and divisive politics designed to protect personal interests.”

“We cannot continue to entertain this nonsense from Muneyi Zavare. He must focus on explaining what happened to the money raised by the district. These sideshows and smear tactics will not stop me from demanding answers. Those funds were meant for community development projects back home, not for private enrichment.”

Makuku highlighted a recent example of financial irregularity, noting that a UK-based member had donated £5,000 specifically for the purchase of printers and laptops.

“To our surprise, only one laptop and one printer were ever delivered to the office of the former Secretary General, Cde O. Mpofu. The rest of the funds as always remain unaccounted for. This has become a pattern that cannot continue unchallenged.”

He claimed that the campaign against him formed part of a broader effort by Zavare to silence dissenting voices through fabricated claims of factionalism, alleged security risks, and questions about his source of income.

On Allegations of Factionalism

Makuku categorically rejected allegations of factionalism, describing them as “a convenient smokescreen” intended to divert attention from the acting chairman’s own misconduct.

“Factionalism has become an easy refuge for those who wish to appear holier-than-thou. I will not abandon my totem simply because desperate individuals are looking for an excuse to silence me. I have used the ‘NaMukanya Tinosvika Chete’ motto for many years, long before the current Vice President assumed office. To interpret that as factionalism is not only misguided, it is downright absurd.”

He emphasised that the motto represents his cultural identity rather than any political affiliation or factional alignment.

“If you check my social media accounts, you will find years of evidence. In fact, as far back as 2016, I had a bus branded with NaMukanya Tinosvika Chete. It is my totem, my identity and I will never be coerced into abandoning it.”

Makuku further condemned what he described as Zavare’s divisive attempts to pit members of the party against one another.

“It is completely unacceptable for Cde Zavare to try to force comrades to take sides. Vice President Chiwenga is part of the Presidium, and every loyal member of ZANU PF supports the entire leadership collectively. This desperate manoeuvre, dressed up as truth but built entirely on lies, will soon collapse under its own weight.”

On Missing District Funds

Turning to what he termed “the real issue,” Makuku challenged Zavare to publicly account for the disappearance of substantial district funds.

“The focus should be on the disappearance of district funds not these childish fabrications. Cde Zavare must come clean and explain what happened to the £5 000 that went missing. That money was raised by hardworking members of the district to support projects for our communities back home. Instead of fabricating stories about me, he should explain why he has repeatedly refused to present the district’s bank statements to the executive.

“If I am wrong, he should hand over the account statements to HQ for verification. That is where the real issue lies.”

He further noted that the district has currently raised US$13,000 towards the forthcoming conference and expressed concern that the funds may again be mismanaged or “fall short” of what is handed over to the Party’s leadership in Zimbabwe.

On Questions Regarding His Source of Income

Addressing questions about his personal finances, Makuku dismissed them as “embarrassingly ignorant and deeply misplaced.”

“It is laughable, honestly. Cde Zavare seems to forget that not all professions pay the same. He is comparing his care work salary to my professional engineering income, which makes absolutely no sense. Perhaps that is why it does not add up in his head. The entire line of questioning is childish and laughable.”

In conclusion, Makuku reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of integrity, accountability, and service to the party and the nation, vowing that he would not be silenced by “falsehoods, political intimidation, or malicious propaganda.”

“This smear campaign will not stand. Those who have abused party funds are now trying to bury the truth by fabricating allegations against me. But the truth will always prevail. They may attempt to silence me, but they cannot silence accountability. Those responsible for diverting party resources must and will be held to account.”
