MASVINGO-Zanu PF Masvingo Province has resolved that President Mnangagwa should remain in office beyond his constitutional two terms which end in 2028.
The resolution, which is the second one in as many years, was made recently during an inter district provincial meeting held at the Masvingo Poly.
“We held our last provincial meeting before the annual People’s Conference to be held in Mutare, and the stand out resolution was that the President and First Secretary Cde E.D Mnangagwa should be in office until 2030,” said Zanu PF provincial party spokesperson, Pepukai Chiwewe during an interview with The Midweek Watch.
He said the resolution will be read out at the Mutare conference to be held from 13 to October 18 together with others from other provinces.
The ED2030 agenda was adopted at the 2024 conference held in Bulawayo although the President said he was a constitutionalist and would not stay a day longer in power after the expiry of his term in in 2028.
On Thursday during the Zanu PF Central Committee meeting President Mnangagwa reiterated that there will be harmonised elections in 2028 and Zanu PF must win resoundingly by thoroughly preparing for the plebiscite.
“We gather today, a few weeks before we hold the 22nd national people’s conference in the scenic city of Mutare, Manicaland Province.
“Further, this meeting is being convened at a time when we have passed the halfway mark since our last harmonised general elections in 2023.
“It is, therefore, of crucial importance that we introspect as a party, not only with regards to our short-term activities, but also in view of the bigger objective of ensuring that our party resoundingly wins the 2028 harmonised general elections,” said Mnangagwa.
Meanwhile, accreditation for the Mutare conference is underway at the party’s provincial offices and over 300 delegates are expected from Masvingo.
Chiwewe said the District Coordinating Committee chairpersons and political commissars, all provincial members, and national consultative assembly members are eligible to attend the conference in Mutare.
