For years Mugabe and Zanu PF made the people of Zimbabwe and world at large to believe that the major reason for going to war was the land.
Zanu PF said the whites had to be fought off the land as they were foreigners and had forcefully taken our ancestor land.
In 2000 after the rejection of the Zanu PF driven Constitution, Mugabe ordered War Veterans to invade the white occupied farms. The process war violent and many lives were lost. Mugabe and Zanu PF justified the killing of innocent people by terming the land invasion ‘Third Chimurenga— Hondo yeminda” Truly it was war. We were made to believe that the Third Chimurenga was a people’s project therefore it was a noble cause.
Mugabe declared that all newly settled farmers would be given 99 year leases.The political propaganda was that the newly settled will sell the land to former farmer if they were given title deeds.
Zanu PF supporters would parrot the need for 99year lease during COPAC. Zanu PF disrupted Constitution Making meetings whenever people mentioned title deeds. This was labeled a regime change agenda or invitation of former colonizers.
Mnangagwa is now pushing for title deeds.This is total betrayal of the people in ZanuPF.These are the very people who were made to believe that the land belonged to them.
Millions of Zanu PF members in rural areas never benefitted from the land reform. Their children will never benefit from the land reform. The land reform has taken a very cruel turn as beneficiaries of the free grabbed farms will have power to sell the land for profit.
The few top leaders in Zanu PF , Security and civil servants benefitted from the land reform. They are now to get the title deeds to sell the land to the poor rural Zanu PF Supporters’ children. A total betrayal of the Third Chimurenga….Land belongs to the state. This turn around from 99 leases to title deeds mean land will belong to individuals.
Mnangagwa has officially accepted that the White land policy was the best.We have created black elite land owners.A few whites owned the land against the majority blacks.The Mnangagwa regime is creating a few black class owners of land against the majority of citizens.
This unacceptable and undemocratic. Mnangagwa is the biggest enemy of the ethos and objectives of the liberation struggle. He is reversing the gains of the liberation struggle. Why should rightful thinking Zimbabweans advocate for a third term for an anti-liberation struggle person?
