GWERU-Tafadzwa Chinhuru (27) of Bonge Village under Chief Bota in Zaka has been slapped with 17 years behind bars for raping a 6 year old girl.
Chinhuru had anal sexual intercourse with a 6 year old girl doing ECD in Shurugwi.
He did not plead guilty to the crime but was convicted by Regional Magistrate Christopher Maturure after a full trial.
Delivering the sentence this morning, Magistrate Maturure said Chinhuru’s actions “has the long term mental effect and exposed the minor to sexual transmitted diseases”.
He said the accused violently dragged the girl from place of residence to the bush without being worried about her age and safety.
According to the medical report produced in court, the girl had some bruises on the knees sustained while trying to resist.
Her pants had blood stains and was torn on the peri- anal region as well as fresh full anal tears where his manhood could have gained entry through.
The prosecutor told the court that on the 3rd of November 2023 at around 7am, Chinhuru arrived at Mugabe homestead at Bonsor, Shurugwi with the aim of quenching his sexual appetite.
He then approached Venessa Gumbo, a sex worker for a short time sexual intercourse service, but was told to wait outside since she was bathing.
“The accused person then grabbed the complainant who was playing with her two friends outside, dragged her to a nearby bush, removed her pants and also lowered his trousers to knee level and had anal sexual intercourse with the minor without her consent,” said prosecutor Eggrina Matutu.
She said after the act, Chinhuru escorted the complainant to Bonsor shops where he left her.
The court heard that upon noticing that the complainant was not with her friends, a relative proceeded to Bonsor shops searching for the girl and she found her roaming at the shops.
The rape came to light after the relative interviewed the complainant who revealed that Chinhuru had sexual intercourse with her without her consent from the back, added Matutu.
The court heard that Gumbo then escorted the victim home before she returned to the shops to look for the accused who was then arrested by the members of the public who in turn handed him over to Shurugwi Police.
