HARARE – The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has distanced itself from highway impersonators and issued a stern warning to individuals who are posing as the antigraft officials and conducting an alleged anti-smuggling operation on the country’s major highways.
According to ZACC Commissioner Kindness Paradza, these imposters are not only acting illegally, but are also extorting money from Zimbabweans and tarnishing the reputation of legitimate law enforcement agencies.
“It has come to our attention that there are individuals who are claiming to be ZACC officials and are carrying out an anti-smuggling operation,” Paradza said.
“I want to make it clear that the Commission is not involved in any such operation. These are illegal activities, and we will not tolerate them.”
Paradza urged the public to be vigilant and to demand identification from anyone claiming to be a ZACC official.
He also advised the public not to offer bribes and to report any suspicious activity to the designated hotline numbers.
“Anyone found impersonating law enforcement officers will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Paradza warned.
“We take this matter very seriously, and we will not hesitate to take action against these individuals.”
