MASVINGO CITY-Two men aged 35 and 33 who allegedly attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old boy at Yeukai Business Centre in Mucheke on Sunday have been denied bail by a Masvingo Magistrate.

The accused were remanded in custody to the 3rd of March for continuation of trial.

It is the state case that the two men were driving a Toyota Prado with no number plates when they allegedly attempted to abduct the minor.

The court heard that the child was playing with other children at Yeukai Shopping Centre when the suspects allegedly grabbed him and forced him into their vehicle.

One of the children who witnessed the incident reportedly alerted the boy’s mother who immediately rushed to the vehicle.

With the help of the public who responded swiftly the mother blocked the vehicle from fleeing leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

It is said that one of the accused is employed at a local motor vehicle sales company while the other is reportedly married to a police officer who allegedly tried to interfere with proceedings at the scene by claiming the duo was drunk.

The suspects will remain in custody and the matter is set to continue on the 3rd of March 2026.
