Eight people have died and three sustained serious injuries after being attacked by crocodiles in the last two months.

In a statement this Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) confirmed the death of eight people in more than 20 crocodile attacks since the commencement of 2024-2025 rainfall season.
“Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority is concerned with the increased number of human-crocodile conflicts since the onset of the rainy season.
“Over the last two months, the authority (ZIMPARKS) has received over 20 reports with eight fatalities while three people were seriously injured. Additionally, the crocodiles also pose threats to livestock,” reads the statement.
The crocodile attacks were prevalent in South East Lowveld, Central region and Mid Zambezi.
“The most affected areas are South East Lowveld (6) (Lundi, Tokwe Mukosi, Lake Mutirikwi), Central region (5) (Munyati river, Kwekwe River, Sebakwe River), Mid Zambezi (5) (Lake Kariba, Hunyani River, Angwa River),” the statement further reads.
ZIMPARKS implored the public to exercise extreme caution around water bodies to reduce risks of crocodile attacks and to prevent loosing livestock to this ferocious reptile.
