CHIREDZI-For the love of marriage, a Mkwasine woman (35) Fadzai Geviza, was arrested for allegedly killing her daughter (3), Ruvarashe Kosa, as her boyfriend only wanted to marry her minus her daughter.
The incident happened in Village 2 Fair Range under Sabhuku Kavele, on the early morning of November 25, 2025.
According to reports, the incident came to light when Geviza approached a neighbour, Netsai Elias (43), at around 3 AM, claiming that her daughter had been stabbed by four unknown assailants.
The child, wrapped in a towel on her mother’s back, was already deceased.
Netsai advised her to notify her aunt, Marilele Flora (52), who also resides in the village.
However, when Geviza arrived at Flora’s homestead, she left the child’s body in the kitchen unattended and proceeded to inform the village herd that the child had died of natural causes.
By 8 AM, as burial preparations began, inconsistencies in the mother’s story raised suspicion.
The village head, upon hearing the conflicting accounts, inspected the child’s body and discovered a deep cut on the left side of her neck. Police were called to the scene.
Upon questioning, Geviza confessed to killing her daughter. She reportedly admitted that she committed the crime because her boyfriend had refused to marry her, saying he could not be with a woman who already had a child.
ZRP Masvingo Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch.
The suspect is currently in custody and assisting police with investigations.
Inspector Dhewa urged the public to seek help and counseling when dealing with emotional or social challenges, rather than resorting to violence.
