Why We Cannot Walk Alone

In a world that prizes independence and “self-made” success, the idea of surrendering control feels almost revolutionary.

We are taught from a young age to “take the wheel” of our lives. Yet, many of us find ourselves at a crossroads, exhausted and lost despite our best efforts.

The prophet Jeremiah captured this human struggle perfectly when he wrote:

”I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.” (Jeremiah 10:23)

This isn’t a message of helplessness; it is a message of humility. It acknowledges that while we have the will to move, we do not always have the wisdom to know which way is best. When we try to be our own masters, we often collide with circumstances beyond our control.

History and scripture warn us about the dangers of following our own logic over divine instruction. In 1 Kings 13, we see the sobering story of the “man of God” who was led astray. It serves as a permanent reminder: even those with a calling can lose their way if they stop listening to the true Source of direction.

When we rely solely on our own understanding, we are like a ship without a rudder functional, but at the mercy of the winds.

The Holy Spirit is Our Divine Guide

If we are not meant to direct ourselves, who is? The answer lies in the promise found in Psalm 32:8:

”I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

This guidance today manifests through the Holy Spirit. He is the “still, small voice” that navigates us through the complexities of life. Often, this communication comes in the form of dreams and visions, acts of divine intervention that bypass our noisy, logical minds to speak directly to our spirits.

One has to, Learn the Language of Heaven, To live a directed life, we must learn how to communicate with the Holy Spirit. It is not enough to simply ask for help; we must be “tuned in” to receive the frequency.

Silence, We cannot hear the Spirit if our lives are too loud. Neither can we have obedience, for direction is given to those who are willing to move when told.

Where as Discernment is there , testing our dreams and visions against the Word ensures we are staying on the right path.

We were never meant to carry the burden of “figuring it all out.” By acknowledging that our steps are not our own, we trade our anxiety for His peace. Let us stop trying to be the architects of our destiny and start becoming followers of the One who knows the end from the beginning.
