MASVINGO-Vurombo Primary School in Mucheke D has emerged as the best performer among the Masvingo City Council (MCC)-run schools, according to a grade seven results analysis released by the local authority.

According to the analysis, based on candidates who scored aggregates of one to three units, Vurombo secured the highest pass rate of 50.8%, placing it on pole position.
The school had 193 candidates (96 girls and 97 boys), with 47 girls and 51 boys achieving top grades.
On second position is Rujeko Primary School with a 40.4% pass rate out of 220 candidates, followed closely by Dikwindi with a 40.2% pass rate.
Shakashe took fourth place with 38.5%, while Runyararo is ranked fifth at 38.0%.
Francis Aphiri Primary School recorded the lowest pass rate at 33.2%, despite having the highest candidature of 310 pupils, of which only 103 scored an aggregate of between one to three units.
Vurombo head Clive Mutimhairi, who was elated by the pass rate, attributed the feat to teamwork.
“There is an improvement from 2024 as we had no students that scored six units. However, this year we have nine students with six units. The school is happy to be back on top among the council schools,” he said.
Rujeko head Phinias Muchati thanked parents and other stakeholders for their support to the school.
“We’re pleased to be second this year. In 2024 we only had two students who had six units, but this year we have five.
“We also have many students below 10 units. As a school, we thank our staff for their teamwork and appeal to parents to finish paying fees so we can purchase more textbooks that are aligned with the new curriculum,” he said.
