Vic Junior head under fire

MIDWEEK REPORTER

MASVINGO CITY-One of the best schools in Masvingo Province, Victoria Junior Government Primary is in turmoil as the School Development Committee is baying for the head’s blood for gross insubordination.

The Midweek Watch is reliably informed that Vic Primary head, Rameck Mashuro is accused of among other things refusing to authorize payments for allowances and procurement of goods and services sanctioned by the SDC.

“Mashuro and the SDC do not see eye to eye as he has refused on several occasions to sanction their sitting allowances despite spending the whole day on school business at the school. Some committee members sacrifice their time and money to make sure that school business is given priority but Mashuro is adamant, he is not moving an inch and has challenged the SDC to order an audit as he will not give them a cent for coming to work for the school,” said a source on condition of anonymity as she has a child at the school.

When contacted for a comment Mashuro said he is not allowed to speak to the Press unless cleared by the Ministry.

Masvingo District Schools Inspector, Ishamael Chigaba said SDCs are not entitled to any allowance for attending meetings or school business because they are not government or employees of the Ministry on salary.

“SDCs are entitled to refreshments during their meetings at the school and not allowances as some claim, it is illegal to give them allowances because they are not employed by the Ministry,” said Chigaba.

Vic Junior SDC chair Anderson Masharira said their working relationship with Mashuro is very cordial.

“We are working very well with the head, I am shocked that you are bringing such allegations against a solid team working for the good of the school.

“As you may be aware , in public service there arer always some people who are waiting in the wings to see one’s downfall or turmoil at any institution, unfortunately for us , we are working very well with the head and everyone else, those who are saying the head is overriding the deputy head as procurement authority are simply lying, we have not heard about that,” said Masharira.

Despite spirited efforts by the SDC chair to deny the rift with the school head a number of sources confirmed the matter.

The other SDC are Nyaradzo Shumba as vice chair, Susan Tsuro, Shayi Tinashe, and Baradze Tafura.
