HARARE-The U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe reaffirmed solid diplomatic ties between the two countries, which span for 45 years, at a reception commemorating the 246th anniversary of the world’s superpower on June 4.

USA Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pamela Tremont toasting to the country’s Independence with Foreign Affairs Minister Amon Murwira.

USA Independence falls on July 4 but was held earlier in the country.

“That is what we celebrate today,” said United States Ambassador Pamela Tremont. “The opportunity for a stronger U.S Zimbabwe relationship. The opportunity for a deal that benefits both sides. The opportunity to protect the human rights our two countries’ founders fought and died for while achieving the economic prosperity they could only dream of.”

Tremont said the U.S. is committed to Zimbabwe’s prosperity, rooted in democratic governance and expanded economic opportunities.

She highlighted the key achievements of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Zimbabwe and explained how the U.S. wants to capitalize on that investment by expanding trade.

“The Administration’s goal is to increase U.S. exports to and trade with Africa,” Tremont said. “For two-way trade to grow and new investment to flourish, responsibility lies with Zimbabwe to create an enabling environment for companies to succeed.”

Zimbabwe Foreign Affairs Minister, Amon Murwira commended the continued engagements between the two countries and called for deeper collaboration to attract investment.

“Zimbabwe looks forward to deepening relations and expansion of bilateral cooperation with the United States of America,” Murwira said.

“Furthermore, we applaud all United States companies that have established businesses in Zimbabwe. We would like to assure all these and all foreign companies in Zimbabwe that the Zimbabwe government is willing to assist them to expand their operations.”

The event brought together senior Zimbabwean government officials, members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, civil society, academics, and alumni of U.S. exchange programs.
