US$900m tobacco produced in 2023

HARARE – In a rescheduled cabinet sitting yesterday the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Anxious Jongwe Masuka said that this year’s tobacco production now stands at 295 499 782kg which is valued at $895 114 791.

A1 and A2 farmers accounted for 52% of the total tobacco produced during the period under review.

In the same bulletin the minister also mentioned that the cumulative area planted under wheat this winter season stands at 90 192h which is above the targeted 90 000h.

Fifty seven percent of the crop was planted by A2 farmers, 13% by A1 farmers and 11% by large scale commercial farmers.

He also mentioned that the crop is at the booting stage and is in good condition.
